I started paper scrapbooking in 1998 after returning from a month long adventure to South East Asia and India. I had no idea at the time what a big business it was. I wandered into a Hallmark Store, purchased a scrapbook and some goodies, spread it out on my dining room table and had a blast. I did another scrapbook after I got married. Once I had kids, I started meeting other moms and discovered this huge world of scrapbooking. My days of leaving everything out on the dining room table were over with kids running around. In 2004 I stumbled upon digital scrapbooking. That year there were only about 3 websites dedicated to digital scrapbooking. I figured it would be a snap with my Photoshop experience.
Well, it wasn't really a snap, it took a while, but I got the hang of it and started a new business, PhotoBook Memories. It was tons of fun, low key, not as high stress as web design and just what I needed with my second child. Time went on and other companies started popping up - big ones like Shutterfly. I was around before all those photobook companies that seem to be everywhere, now. I sold PhotoBook Memories in Jan. 2010, after we moved to VA. I no longer had access to my printer or bindery and it was time.
Digital Scrapbooking is still my hobby. As with most hobbies, it's one I wish I had more time for. I'm a few years behind. I started a new scrapbooking night in my community, crossing my fingers it will be a big hit. At least it will give me one night per month to focus on it!
If you are thinking about trying digital scrapbooking and have and know Photoshop, great, give it a shot. If you don't have or know Photoshop you can get started with Adobe Photoshop Elements. I have links below the movies to help you get started. My blog is full of digital scrapbooking goodies.
